Marco Island fence installation

Fences for Island Living

Marco Island has its own building department, its own fence rules and plenty of deed restrictions. Much of the island was developed from the 1960s on, and many lots carry restrictions the city expects owners to research before building, with the Marco Island Civic Association as the go-to resource.

The island also has some of the toughest conditions in Southwest Florida. Hurricane Irma made landfall here in 2017, Ian brought about 8 feet of storm surge in 2022, and salt spray is constant. We build with materials that handle it.

Permits

Marco Island Fence Permits

The City of Marco Island issues its own fence permits, separate from Collier County.

What the city requires

A survey or site plan showing the fence location, height, material, setbacks and length, plus pool barrier details when the fence protects a pool. Fences in required yards are limited to 6 feet.

Wildlife buffers

City code keeps equipment 33 feet from burrowing owl burrows and 25 feet from gopher tortoise burrows. Owl nesting season runs February 15 to July 10.

We check your deed restrictions with you, prepare the survey-based site plan and pull the permit.

Island conditions

Built for Marco Island Weather

Hurricane-force wind, storm surge and daily salt spray are why we're careful about materials and installation here.

FAQ

Marco Island Fence Questions

Do I need a permit for a fence on Marco Island?

Yes. The City of Marco Island requires a fence permit with a survey or site plan. We prepare it and pull the permit.

How tall can my fence be?

Fences in required yards are limited to 6 feet. Front-yard limits and deed restrictions vary, so we confirm them for your lot.

What fence lasts longest on the island?

Powder-coated aluminum and vinyl. Both resist salt air far better than steel or wood.

There's a burrowing owl in my yard. Can I still get a fence?

Usually, yes. City code requires keeping equipment 33 feet from owl burrows, so we plan the layout around it.

How quickly will you call me back?
