Fences for Punta Gorda's Waterfront Neighborhoods

Punta Gorda has been through more than most towns. Hurricane Charley's eye passed directly over it in 2004, and in 2022 Hurricane Ian damaged more than 6 miles of seawall in Punta Gorda Isles alone. Many homeowners here are rebuilding pool areas and yards, and they want fences that will last.

Not every Punta Gorda address is in the city. Punta Gorda Isles and the downtown area are inside city limits, while Deep Creek and Burnt Store Lakes are unincorporated Charlotte County, with different permits and different community rules. We confirm which applies before we design anything.

Permits

Punta Gorda Fence Permits

Who permits your fence depends on whether you're inside Punta Gorda city limits.

City of Punta Gorda

The city's Building Division handles fences inside city limits. In the Special Residential Overlay, fences on developed lots are limited to 4 feet on the sides and back and aren't allowed in front yards, and only sod can go within 6 feet of a seawall.

Unincorporated Charlotte County

Deep Creek, Burnt Store Lakes and nearby areas use the county's Citizen Access Portal with a $30 zoning review. No fence over 4 feet is allowed within 10 feet of a seawall or the mean high-water line.

Many neighborhoods also have deed restrictions. Burnt Store Lakes, for example, requires its own HOA application and limits fences to 4 feet. We give you the details your association asks for and pull the permit.

FAQ

Punta Gorda Fence Questions

Am I in the City of Punta Gorda or the county?

It depends on your street, not your mailing address. Punta Gorda Isles and downtown are in the city; Deep Creek and Burnt Store Lakes are county. We check before we quote.

How close to my seawall can my fence be?

Inside the city, only sod is allowed within 6 feet of the seawall. In the county, fences within 10 feet of the seawall are limited to 4 feet.

Does my HOA have to approve my fence?

Often, yes. Communities like Burnt Store Lakes and Deep Creek have their own fence rules. We give you the details to submit.

Do you build pool fences?

Yes, built to Florida's pool barrier law with self-closing, self-latching gates.

How quickly will you call me back?
